Hi, my name is Pete “Munn” Doremus.  Last week  I flew down from New Jersey to finally fulfill a childhood dream, bass fishing in the Florida Everglades.

My friend Matt Welch has been trying to get me to come down and fish with Captain John Pate for months.

I would like to share my experience with a true everglades bass fishing legend.

The morning started at 5:30 to meet Captain Pate and launch his beautiful bass boat in the world renowned “Alligator Alley”.

Still working on my super size 24oz. coffee, I was amazed at the beauty and vastness of the everglades area.

At that moment, I realized Mr. Matt had me fishing with one of the best bass fishing guides in South Florida, reminding me of my first big bass at age nine on Lake Owassa, in New Jersey.

As we breezed through the canals, Mr. Pate gave me a well rounded history of the surroundings.  I was just as excited as if I were 9 again- thinking of big bass, good company, and a new experience!!

The 225 hp bass boat came to our first stop and our lures immediately hit the water.  I must admit, I was a little nervous, but Mr. Pate gave me a quick lesson in Everglades fishing techniques and I was on my way.

Within three minutes we were pulling fish into the boat left and right.

I was having a great time.

We were catching bass every other cast until a storm quickly approached us.

With forty years experience, Mr. Pate decided to “boogey on outa here”.

As we flew through the canals home, our video man got great shots of the storm and clouds.

The whole experience was captured on video for my enjoyment for years to come

I’ve already checked my work schedule to book another trip within a few months.
